Numb

NUMB is director Michael Gibsons dystopian view of a world where the human race is in a constant drug stupor while attended to by “angels”. The film is a story of a girl looking for her father, inventor of the drug, to save him from this relentless, changeless drugged state.

The film is a fascinating look at society gone overboard in numbing itself from the pain of, well. . . everything.

As with 24hrs on craigs list, director Gibson provides an excellent non-stop commentary about every aspect of the film and his ideas. Well worth listening to.

Hundra

Hundra is Matt Cimber’s “feminist” “Conan the Barbarian” epic. Cimber displays a tongue in cheek humor as well as great action direction in this early 80’s sword and sandals flick. Star Laurene Landon graces the screen with her long legs and blonde mane as she dispatches one hapless male opponent after another, only to fall for the handsome and gentlemanly doctor in a town full of miscreant misogynists.

A fantastic digital restoration and color correction, along with some fun menus and special features, make this a disc worth owning. Find a copy and enjoy this funny, and sexy, action flic.

Land of Look Behind

LOLB was a special case, an almost forgotten documentary about the Rastafarian movement and Jamaica with a special place in its heart for Bob Marley, whose funeral is a central feature of the film. The film was shot on 16mm stock back in 1981 and then blown up to 35mm for theatrical release. Subversive sought out copies of the film but none of them was of very good quality. After much deliberation, Norman Hill decided to go ahead with an HD transfer from the best of the 35mm prints available.

The result was a transfer requiring hundreds of hours of DRS (digital restoration) work to bring it to a releasable standard for Subversive.

That process has resulted in a truly special disc of this collector’s piece. If you can find a copy, buy it. It’s a great document of its time and of the independent film making spirit.
